The Organizational Ombuds Reader - Call for Nominations

By Shannon Burton, Ph.D., University Ombudsperson, Michigan State University &
Shereen G. Bingham, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus, University of Nebraska Omaha,

Dear Colleagues,

The IOA Research & Assessment Committee will be developing The Organizational Ombuds Reader with an anticipated publication date during 2023. This Call for Nominations has been revised in the hope of soliciting articles that fall within the scope of organizational ombuds. In the first call for nominations, we recognized that it was not specific enough to the needs of the members of the International Ombuds Association.

This new Call for Nominations specifically asks our members to consider what articles have been helpful to them as they reflect on the IOA Research Agenda. The hope is that this revised Call for Nominations will result in a more systematic body of research and knowledge.

Edited by Dr. Shannon Lynn Burton and Dr. Shereen G. Bingham, The Organizational Ombuds Reader will be a collection of scholarly pieces that advance knowledge of the ombuds profession, the ombuds professional, and ombuds practices related to the goals and research areas outlined in the IOA Research Agenda. The Reader will serve as a resource for ombuds scholars and practitioners. It will also help ombuds and the ombuds profession keep track of research in the field and help the profession monitor progress of the generation of knowledge through research.

We need YOU to make this Reader complete! As part of this initiative, Drs. Burton and Bingham are reaching out to ombuds colleagues, practitioners, and researchers far and wide with two requests:

Nominate Research Studies & Other Scholarly Pieces

Nominate research studies and other scholarly pieces (journal articles, book chapters, and books) written on organizational ombuds to be considered for inclusion in the Reader. Each piece should relate to one or more of the research goals (and research areas beneath them) outlined in the research agenda. You may nominate more than one piece as well.

To submit a scholarly piece for the Reader, please complete our Google Form.

Nominate Yourself

Nominate yourself to serve as a Reviewer for the Editorial Board. The Reviewers will be assigned scholarly pieces to review and evaluate over a 3-month period, and the Editorial Board will use these evaluations to make the final decisions on which pieces to include. For those who completed the previous nomination to be a reviewer, we ask that you complete the form again reflecting on the new focus of the reader:

To submit your self-nomination to be a Reviewer, please complete our Google Form.

Nominations will be considered until November 15th, 2022. Thank you for your time and assistance with this valuable project. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact either Dr. Burton or Dr. Bingham.

Best Wishes,
