About the Webinar

Four practicing ombuds videotaped a series of mock visitor sessions in order to ”pull back the curtain” and reveal what their actual process looks like in the room. This webinar will feature selected clips from the videos of those mock sessions that highlight different techniques and/or IOA Standards of Practice and a moderated discussion, using Appreciative Inquiry, of how each practitioner and the participants deal with different scenarios.

Here are five reasons to attend:

Presenters

Angela Dash HeadshotAngela Dash, Ph.D., PCC, Ombuds for NEOMED

Angela Dash has served as the Ombuds for Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) since 2014, serving all students, faculty and staff. She is also an on-call Alternative Dispute Resolution Advisor for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Prior to her appointment as the ombuds for NEOMED, Angela spent nearly twenty years in state and county government in Georgia, including serving as the director of the Office of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) with the Atlanta Judicial Circuit.

As a Georgia registered mediator since 2002, she has completed hundreds of hours of mediation, facilitation and conflict management training and frequently trains on various topics related to conflict management and interpersonal communication, serving audiences through the U.S. and abroad. She trains on topics such as emotional intelligence, group facilitation skills, motivational interviewing, mediation strategies, coaching as a leader, and on the Thinking for a Change group program curriculum. 

Additionally, through her coaching training and practice, Angela has earned the credential of a professional certified coach (PCC) through the International Coach Federation and is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). She draws from her background as a trainer, professional coach, motivational interviewing practitioner, and mediator, in her ombuds practice. 

Angela’s undergraduate degree is from Spelman College. She also has a master of public administration from Troy State University, a graduate certificate in executive and professional coaching from the University of Texas at Dallas, and a Ph.D. in conflict analysis and resolution from Nova Southeastern University. Her dissertation research was on “The experience of witnessing bullying in the workplace: A transcendental phenomenological study.”

Ruthy Rosenburg HeadshotRuthy Kohorn Rosenberg, University Ombudsperson at Brown University

Ruthy Kohorn Rosenberg has been the University Ombudsperson for Brown University since 2013. Ruthy has 30 years of experience in conflict resolution and management, ombudsmanry, organizational development, coaching, teaching and curriculum design. Ruthy arrived at Brown from MIT where she worked with faculty, staff, and students to build capacity within the Institute community to deal effectively with conflict. In addition, Ruthy was the Special Assistant to the Dean in the Division of Biology and Medicine at Brown from 2000 to 2006. She has also facilitated and mediated in many different contexts including divorce, high tech start-ups, non-profits, and civic dialogue.

Ruthy’s undergraduate degree is from Smith College. She has a law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law and a Certificate in Non Profit Management from Case Western Reserve University. She is specifically trained as an ombuds (IOA), and in facilitation, divorce mediation, civil rights mediation, USDA mediation, and has a certificate from IAP2 in public participation processes.

Prisca Youn HeadshotPrisca Youn, Assistant to the Ombud, University of Washington

Prisca Youn is a higher education professional with 10 years of experience working with the University of Washington. With a background in communications and marketing, she has worked with partners in the corporate, nonprofit, and education sectors. 

Transitioning into the UW Office of the Ombud in 2017, Prisca has supported the University Ombud in working with 600+ cases annually amongst faculty, staff and students; serving 3 campus locations and 2 medical centers. Most recently, she designed and organized presentations for both the IOA 2018 Annual Conference and 2019 Annual Conference – “In the Room Where it Happens – Inside Ombuds Practices” and “ Equity, Inclusion & Allyship in the Ombud Office” respectively.
