Presenter Bios: 

Dr. Shannon Lynn Burton is the University Ombudsperson at Michigan State University, as well as Co-Ombuds for the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and an Adjunct Professor of Management at Aquinas College where she teaches conflict resolution, group dynamics, and ethics.  Since beginning her tenure as University Ombudsperson, Shannon has been appointed to several committees examining structures of safety and support including the Relationship Violence and Sexual Misconduct Expert Advisory Workgroup, the Positive Workplace Alliance, the Workplace Bullying and Harassment Ad Hoc Task Force, the Virtual Harassment Think Tank and the Police and Public Safety Committee. Shannon serves the broader professional community through her work as one of the International Ombudsman Association's (IOA) inaugural co-chairs for the Research and Assessment Committee, Editor for the Journal of the IOA (JIOA) and a Co-Editor for IOA’s first book, The Organizational Ombuds: Foundations, Fundamentals and Futures to be published in 2024.

David G. Schwartz, Ombuds, professor, and gaming historian at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, studies conflict resolution, gambling and games, and history. He is a Certified Organizational Ombuds Practitioner and credentialed mediator. An Atlantic City, New Jersey native and former casino employee, Schwartz has written and edited several books, including At the Sands, Cutting the Wire, Roll the Bones, Grandissimo, and Boardwalk Playground. He earned his Ph.D. in United States History from UCLA, and teaches several classes, including casino history, video games, conspiracy theories, alternate history, and jazz history. He is also an enthusiastic speaker and workshop leader.
