About the Course

This webinar will update the IOA community on the work and plans of IOA’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Working Group, providing a discussion of how AI is affecting the practices and field of organizational ombuds, including an overview of some uses, benefits, concerns, and resources. The IOA Board asked the Research and Assessment Committee to take the lead on helping members understand how they can effectively use AI, including the identification of possible pitfalls to pay attention to when using AI. That request led to the formation of the AI Working Group in January 2024 and reinforces the purpose of this webinar, to contribute to discussion and dissemination of information on this topic. The webinar is intended for organizational ombuds in all settings and phases of practice, including aspiring ombuds.

Learning Objectives

After participating in this webinar, participants will be better able to:

  • Think about how AI is affecting the practices and field of organizational ombuds, with specific examples, including ways that ombuds can use AI in our practices.

  • Learn to identify how those effects and uses of AI can benefit our practices.

  • Learn to identify how those effects and uses of AI can raise concerns for our practices, including potential vulnerability for our compliance with IOA’s Standards of Practice and Ethics.

  • Consider promising practices on how to reconcile the benefits with the concerns.

  • Identify additional resources.
