Accessibility: Events Checklist

  • Are ombuds events located in accessible facilities (e.g., wheelchair-friendly, adequate lights)?
     
  • Is information about how to request disability-related accommodations prominently included in publications and/or marketing materials advertising the events? Sample language could be as simple as used by Michigan State University: “Michigan State University is committed to providing equal opportunity for participation in all programs, services and activities. Accommodations for persons with disabilities may be requested by contacting [Name, Affiliation, and Contact info] by [date]. Requests received after this date will be honored whenever possible.”  
  • Is accessible transportation available if transportation is being arranged for other participants?  Check with your organization’s transportation department for such an option.
