Accessibility: Materials and Electronic Resources Checklist
- Are all printed publications available in alternate formats, such as Braille, large print, and electronic text (for example, Brailled business cards)?
- Do ombuds materials include a statement about the office’s commitment to universal access and procedures for requesting disability-related accommodations? Sample language could be as simple as that used by Michigan State University: “Michigan State University is committed to providing equal opportunity for participation in all programs, services and activities. Accommodations for persons with disabilities may be requested by contacting [Name, Affiliation, and Contact info] by [date]. Requests received after this date will be honored whenever possible.”
- Is the ombuds office website accessible? Captions, audio descriptions, and accessible formatting should be incorporated in your website. Check out tips at http://media.depts.washington.edu/doit/wmv/wwa.wmv. If a Federal office, please see reference to Section 508 requirements at http://www.section508.gov.
