IOA Ombuds Effectiveness Project

Team's Mission

To equip ombuds offices with guidance, research tools, and training to measure and present effectiveness of their programs relevant to the stakeholder’s goals, in alignment with their organization's mission and values.

About the Project

The Ombuds Effectiveness Task Force was convened in 2020-2022 to research and gather information on how ombuds share meaningful insight with their organizations. What do their reporting documents, brochures, surveys, and data look like? The goal was to bring all of this knowledge together and share a comprehensive resource list to share with members.  The resource list has been completed and is housed in CommUnity via this link.

Goals of the Project:

  • Goal #1 was to gather resources such as articles, webinars, whitepapers, reports, case-law, and any other type of resource that may help us answer these questions. Michael Green, Sofia Trelles, Angella J. Wint, and I are working hard to gather resources for this project.
  • Goal #2  was focused on gathering effectiveness tools. Common examples of tools include annual reports, marketing brochures, surveys, intake forms, reporting templates, and risk and stakeholder engagement frameworks.
  • Goal #3 was fcoused on creating training and a comprehensive toolkit.  A core course on demonstrating value was offered in 2023 and later turned into an assynchronous course that will be available on the Learning Management Platform late Spring 2025
  • Ultimate Goal: Creating training and curating tools to equip us with how to feel confident about how we talk about and measure effectiveness.
