Dear All IOA Members,

In 2020, IOA is continuing to partner with Westfourth Communications to evolve the IOA brand. During a comprehensive discovery survey conducted in December 2018, we identified the current brand voice of IOA as we know it. This information helped the team develop new core messaging and the Modern Ombuds Toolkit. Leveraging these results, we are now entering the next phase to establish IOA's aspirational brand personality. The goal of this exercise is to identify a set of descriptive words to build the foundation for IOA’s image of tomorrow.

What Is a Brand and Why Does it Matter?

Put simply, your “brand” is what someone thinks of when they hear an organization’s name. It’s everything the public knows about your brand offering—both factual (e.g. it uses a purple and gray logo) and emotional (e.g. it’s intellectual). Brand personality is a set of emotional and associative characteristics to define how people feel about and interact with an organization. The goal is to build a brand personality mirroring that of the audience it serves, and the organization we aspire to be in the decades to come.

Defining and embracing a consistent tone ensures that everyone who communicates on behalf of IOA does so with the same voice and style. Cultivating and harnessing this personality will be a key factor in our long-term success.
