Transforming Visitor Conversations from a DEIB Lens

Presented by: Michael N. HerringtonM.Ed, SPHR

This interactive session will provide strategies and practical application to support and encourage effective dialogue for ombuds visitors from a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) lens. We will explore the role self-awareness and identities play in our conversations with visitors. Additionally, we will be providing tools and techniques that help establish trust with our visitors, help them explore their options, and make informed choices. Included will be practicing curiosity, using the power of silence, promoting well-being, inclusive verbal and non-verbal behaviors, affirming visitor participation, and the role of benevolent compassion.
