Course Description 

Inclusive Facilitation is a learning lab to experience and learn simple, semi-structured activities you can use immediately in your outreach and education efforts, meetings, and other gatherings. Group facilitation is a practice we ombuds are forever mastering. There is always a learning edge, no matter one’s level of experience. We’ll kick this series off with Liberating Structures (LS), a repertoire of open-source protocols and innovative guidelines for how people are included and participate, LS was developed to redistribute power more widely, invite self-organization, and increase diversity and transparency. Participants are invited to discover new ways to foster connection, inclusion, collaboration, and joy. You’ll leave this immersive session with a handful of engaging activities, tips and tricks for flexible application, and general best practices for inclusive facilitation.

Objectives:

  • Learn facilitation methods to foster inclusivity, connection and joy.
  • Learn ways to hold space for conflict and reflection; shift energy from destructive/siloed to constructive/collaborative.
  • Explore a crowdsourced challenge through multiple creative modalities.

Instructor Bio:

Frieda Hoffman is a conflict and leadership coach, emergent facilitator, and organizational development consultant. She recently joined the staff of Rutgers University in the position of Conflict Management Specialist. She offers training and support for organizations seeking to improve workplace culture, collaboration, and resilience within their teams through group processes and 1:1 coaching. Frieda is deeply passionate about helping others navigate conflict, connect meaningfully, and be well in unwell systems. She is well versed in restorative justice practices and facilitated dialogue, using a trauma-informed, equity-based approach. She serves as an International Coaching Federation Professional Certified Coach mentor, and leads bespoke leadership development, coach training, and conflict readiness programs. Frieda brings an intuitive sense of people and relationships to her practice, merging 16 years of project management and leadership experience with her unique background in social work and psychology. Her facilitation style is highly experiential, inclusive and playful.
