Mediation Theory and Skills for the Organizational OmbudsmanWhat is a Core Course?IOA's Core Courses address fundamental knowledge and practice for new ombuds (practitioners with less than three years of full-time practice) or for ombuds who desire to learn or refresh such fundamentals. Core Courses form the basis of a curriculum for organizational ombuds and are based upon a set of knowledge domains derived from the CO-OP® Job Analysis Reports. Course DescriptionMediation Theory and Skills for the Organizational OmbudsmanThis two-day mediation course is designed to provide a theoretical and practical overview of the formal mediation process and mediator skills as they relate to an ombudsperson’s practice. Taught by Melissa Brodrick, Ombudsperson, Harvard Medical School/School of Dental Medicine/T. H. Chan School of Public Health. Course Limit: 16 participants Course Prerequisites: Foundations of Organizational Ombudsman Practice and less than 20 hours of mediation training Faculty
Melissa Brodrick Ombudsperson, Harvard Medical School/School of Dental Medicine/T. H. Chan School of Public Health Melissa serves as an impartial and informal dispute resolution practitioner who provides confidential and informal assistance to Harvard faculty, staff, students and trainees and to appointees at the affiliated institutions. Her services include helping visitors to clarify their concerns, identify their goals and consider all of their options in managing or resolving their disputes. Melissa provides coaching in written and verbal communications, informal mediation, meeting facilitation, shuttle diplomacy, and information about policies/procedures and resources. She also offers educational programs upon request.
