The Independent Voice goes public: Call for blog posts

By The Independent Voice Editorial Team

The Independent Voice is going public! We are so excited about the opportunity that we, as IOA members, will have to share insights and information with those outside of the Association who may want to know more about who we are and what we do as ombuds. In preparation for the launch of the public site, we’re hoping to collect posts that we can publish over time once the new site launches. You can help!

We encourage creativity and thoughtfulness as you communicate your own perspectives and experiences through essays, poems, interviews, thoughtful reviews, etc. If you have an idea, but you aren’t sure it would make a good blog post, we’d be happy to talk it over with you. This is a great way to share your voice in a way that can educate and inspire others to appreciate the work we do as ombuds. You don’t have to be a proficient writer, you just have to be willing to draft your thoughts and send them our way (!

If you’re willing to write, but you have a hard time coming up with content, here are some examples of things readers may want to know:

  • What skills or practices have you recently learned or employed as an ombuds?
  • What are some resources you utilize or share with your constituents to help effectively engage in conflict?
  • What are some ways that ombuds can establish trust with organizational leaders?
  • How has your practice evolved since you first became an ombuds?
  • What types of professional development activities have you engaged in lately?
  • How do you practice self-care?

These or other ombuds-related topics should work; just be sure to protect the privacy of your visitors and organizations.

If you have any questions or ideas, please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected]. We look forward to working with you!

Jennifer Schneider, PhD, Student Ombuds for the University of South Florida
